Wharncliffe Kitchen, Rotherham College

Shortly before Christmas 2011 the college had the ventilation system in one of its production kitchens condemned by gas engineers. A combination of age and legislation meant that the system needed replacing in order to satisfy current safety standards.

The objective was to use the existing ducting but to replace all the canopies, the fan and the suspended ceiling.

An in depth method statement and risk assessment was submitted as the fan replacement required scaffolding and roof access. The highlight of which was panoramic views over the entire town.

The site and in particular the staff are very happy with their new canopies as the lighting, the air flow and the aesthetics have all improved greatly.
